4 events, 38 teams, 1 tournament, Over $25,000 raised

Every spring, our chapter puts on Theta Ironbrawl to raise money for Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA). Our main event is a flag football tournament. We also host a Zumba class, a 5K fun run, and a volunteer day. A group of girls is assigned to each team that signs up to coach them through the week and cheer them on at the tournament.
We recently added a new event: BWWfor CASA, in partnership with Corvallis Buffalo Wild Wings. During this event, anyone who eats at Pastini can mention Kappa Alpha Theta and/or CASA, and 50% of the proceeds are donated to our philanthropy.
With the hard work of our chapter and the assistance of our generous donors, we raised a chapter high of over $20,000 in 2017. We are excited about how much we could help CASA as well as bring the Oregon State Community together through our philanthropy.
Court Appointed Special Advocates

The mission of the National Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) Association, together with its state and local members, is to support and promote court-appointed volunteer advocacy so that every abused or neglected child can be safe, establish permanence and have the opportunity to thrive.
CASA volunteers are appointed by judges to watch over and advocate for abused and neglected children, to make sure they don’t get lost in the overburdened legal and social service system or languish in inappropriate group or foster homes. Volunteers stay with each case until it is closed and the child is placed in a safe, permanent home. For many abused children, their CASA volunteer will be the one constant adult presence in their lives.
Independent research has demonstrated that children with a CASA volunteer are substantially less likely to spend time in long-term foster care and less likely to reenter care.
Last year, more than 75,000 CASA and guardian ad litem (GAL) volunteers helped 240,000 abused and neglected children find safe, permanent homes.
